Walden named HPISD Director of Academics & Support Services

Lydia Walden has been named the new HPISD Director of
Academics & Support Services.
Walden comes to HPISD from Como-Pickton ISD where she has
served as Assistant Superintendent for State, Federal and Special Programs
since 2007. Her career in education spans nearly 30 years, and she
has served as a junior high principal, an elementary principal and as a
teacher. She began her career teaching first grade in Mt. Vernon ISD,
and has taught in Sulphur Springs and Garland ISDs.
"We are pleased to welcome Lydia Walden to our HPISD
family as Director of Academics & Support Services," Assistant
Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction & Special Programs Gena
Gardiner said. "She is a proven leader whose experience, skills and
depth of knowledge make her a perfect fit for this important position."
Walden received her bachelor's degree from East Texas State
University and her master's degree from Texas A&M University - Commerce.
She earned her superintendent certification from the Bill Ratliff
Superintendent Academy at Texas A&M University - Commerce, and she
currently serves on the Texas Association of School Administrators'
Central Office Advisory Committee.
"I am so blessed to be provided the opportunity to join
the HPISD administrative leadership team," Walden said. "I am
excited to be a part of a nationally recognized, innovative school district
that is committed to excellence."
Walden has been married for 33 years to her husband, Eric, a
University Park police officer since 1994. They have four grown children
and seven grandchildren.
